Our Mission

  • to foster interaction between parents and children via the language of music
  • to foster creativity, self-expression, and confidence

Program Foundation

At Growing Up With Music parents and children, birth to age five, experience music
as a first language through singing, chanting, moving, dancing, pattern interaction,
and instrument exploration. This program is based on
Music Learning Theory
developed by Dr. Edwin Gordon. Music Learning Theory explains how children learn
when they learn music, and provides sequential approach to music teaching
based on child development. Visit
www.giml.org to learn about this internationally
renown theory and method.

Fostering Creativity, Self-Expression, and Confidence
Our classes are centered on children’s natural inclination to sing, chant, and move.
We create an atmosphere that stimulates and encourages creative responses to music
and movement. Children are not expected to demonstrate “correct” technique,
acquire a specific skill, or respond at a specific time. Instead, teacher carefully observes
children's responses and incorporates these responses into a song or an activity.
As a result, children's creativity, self-expression, and confidence blossoms
in a pressure free, non-competitive, and non-threatening environment.
